  • Kids Heart Challenge

Posted by Jaime Lee on 4/13/2021

During the month of March, McClure students participated in the Kids Heart Challenge through the American Heart Association. Students learned about how to help their hearts be healthier and help other kids who might have heart problems. Together students raised over $3769. Eight students raised over $160 each.

McClure P.E. teacher Laura Pruchinsky partnered with the following local organizations to have prizes donated for students: Get Air, Nerds Laser Tag, and McDonald's.

All students were able to participate in the challenge by setting goals to be kind, choosing water, or moving more. Way to go McClure!

The fresh produce boxes contained 8-12 different types of produce from local and neighboring state farms. A special thanks to our local farmers; McIlrath Family Farms, Pacific Fresh Produce, and the Washington State Department of Agriculture. We also appreciate the staff support from Crafted Eatery & Single Hill for helping pack the boxes. Thank you for partnering together to provide nutritious local produce for our community!

The Yakima Schools Foundation handed out student activity kits that shared information on how to practice #SafeCelebrations while having fun over winter break. The kits included coloring pages and mask making supplies. Students and/or parents can comment on any YSD #SafeCelebrations social media post with a picture of their coloring page or mask to be entered to win a prize! Winners will be announced on social media on January 4.

  • Rain, Snow, or Shine Food Distribution Prevails

Posted by Jaime Lee on 12/18/2020

On December 16th McClure Elementary had some special visitors during food distribution. Santa and one of his elves helped hand out food, gifts, and even directed traffic! Our food distribution staff braved the cold to make sure ALL of our food was distributed. Thank you to Footprinters of Yakima for sending Santa and to Mcilrath farms for the produce boxes.

  • McClure Elementary Students receive Student of the Month Recognition

Posted by Jaime Lee on 12/10/2020

McClure Elementary students of the month receive a personalized home visit and a certificate along with a yard sign to display for all to see. Each classroom teacher selects two students to be recognized as student of the month. Students are selected for being eagerly engaged and having practically perfect participation during remote learning. Once names are submitted and certificates are printed the principal, assistant principal, counselor, and multi-tiered systems of support specialist (MTSS) head out into the community to deliver 50 certificates and yard signs monthly. Make sure that you keep an eye for the blue yard signs!
