  • Whitney and Ridgeview Students Take First Place In Charity Campaign And Donating Over 4,500 Meals

Posted by Ashley LaRiviere on 3/31/2021
Ridgeview and Whitney students have done it again!

    yakima donation

Imagine Learning recently sponsored a “Feeding the Northwest” challenge, allowing students to donate their THINK Points to local food banks, helping families most negatively impacted due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

School districts from Washington, Oregon, and California competed in donating THINK POINTS to a “Feeding the Northwest” campaign. Many of these districts had 6 to 7 times as many students using the program as YSD. However, Whitney and Ridgeview students stunned the Northwest when as first-year implementers of Imagine Math, they took FIRST PLACE in this charity campaign, donating over 1,000,000 THINK points, which equates to over 4500 meals.

This remarkable feat has been made possible through the tireless efforts of teachers at both schools and the enthusiastic support of the administrative teams at Ridgeview Elementary (K.C. Mitchell–Principal, Trina Hovsepian–Vice Principal, Jennifer Henson–Instructional Facilitator) and Whitney Elementary (Kim Newell–Principal, Brandon Hunt–Vice Principal, and Teresa Blondin–Instructional Facilitator).

  • Elementary Students Donate to the Red Cross Via Earned "THINK Points"

Posted by Ashley LaRiviere on 1/29/2021
This past school year, Ridgeview and Whitney Elementary utilized Imagine Math to help students learn math while learning at home. Imagine Math is an award-winning, online computer program designed to help students gain mastery and confidence in mathematics.

    Thank You
Within the program, students earn “THINK Points” by completing math problems. Students can donate these THINK Points to select charities.
Due to the Wildfires of 2020, students from over 160 School Districts in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, had the opportunity to donate their THINK Points to a Wildfire Relief Fund.

From over 160 School Districts, 8 top-performing schools were selected to donate the funds to their local Red Cross. Whitney and Ridgeview were two of the eight! This came because while in the first year of using the program, Whitney and Ridgeview students have led their schools to be Top-3 in Washington State in usage, lessons attempted, and lessons passed within Imagine Math.

  • Whitney 5th Grade Mathematicians!

Posted by Kim Newell on 12/1/2020

    “Three Whitney Wildcat Scholars”

Soar to the State Level in Imagine Math

Whitney Elementary School is piloting an adaptive math program this year called Imagine Math.  The program supports students and teachers with personalized, interactive, and engaging math instruction that is ideal for the distance learning model.  Whitney is celebrating three 5th Grade ROCKSTAR mathematicians Nicole, Penelope, and Emma who have created a healthy competition among themselves at both the school and state level. Each of the three girls interchangeably either hold 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place positions at the state level for most lessons passed for 5th grade standards since the beginning of the school year.  Please join the Whitney community in celebrating our State Level Mathematicians for Imagine Math!
