Did you know that Assistant Principal Shawn Orminski loves to experiment with new recipes in the kitchen, creating homemade sauces and sides that her family loves?

  • America's Next Top Model Classroom

Posted by Stephanie Rosbach on 10/5/2020

America's Next Top Model Classroom is taking Gilbert and special education by storm. I am proud to be partnering closly with the district and Special Education Services to provide a model classroom for our self-contained students. We plan for students in self-contained classes to return to school in a hybrid model beginning on October 26.

Ms. Daugherty and her team of paras created an environment to demonstrate what it will look like when proper safety protocols are in place. For example, dots are placed on the floor six feet apart from each door way for students to line up. Students have individually labeled chairs and supply boxes, as well as an additional pencil box to place their mask in at recess. Sinks have signs reminding students to wash their hands, each student will have his/her own water bottle, and we have full PPE for staff to wear.

We cannot wait to have some of our students back in the building!

  • EBT Funds Available to All YSD Students

Posted by YSD Food Services on 7/6/2020

Because COVID-19 closed our schools, your children are eligible for food assistance, called Pandemic EBT (P-EBT): Emergency School Meals Program.

P-EBT provides families with funds to make up for some of the cost of meals while school was closed. This benefit is for Washington children in grades K-12 who receive free or reduced-price school meals. These benefits will be on an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card which is used like a debit card to buy groceries. Because all YSD students receive free breakfast and lunch, all YSD students are eligible regardless of income. If you do not already receive benefits, you will need to apply on or after June 30.  If you receive food assistance benefits already, the money will appear on your EBT on June 30.

Update 7/6/20: We have been in contact with OSPI last week and they said that DSHS had the incorrect student list for Yakima School District which is why they turned down some parents; they are updating with the correct list which will show any student enrolled in Yakima School District that was grade K-12 in the school year 2019-2020 as eligible for PEBT.

If you were denied, go to WashingtonConnections.org and apply again and see if their list has been updated. You can inform them Yakima is a CEP district.
