For five years straight, Garfield Elementary has been the beneficiary of generous support from our Fred Meyer's store in Yakima. They recently donated and helped serve food during our open house event. As a result, the 40th Ave. Fred Meyer's receved regional accolades for their support. Here is the write up on that:
Yakima’s Back to School BBQ
Recently, our Yakima, WA store provided an awesome uplift for the Garfield Elementary students in their community. The 486 team has been a big supporter of the school for years, donating school supplies, holding discount back to school nights, and helping with other activities that they have throughout the year. Last year, Yakima was unable to participate due to COVID, but they were thrilled to be able to gear families up for the school year by hosting a back to school BBQ for the kids and their parents. The team supplied hot dogs, buns, chips, and drinks, and enjoyed grilling and serving all the kids. Our associates are honored to partner with Garfield Elementary. They have a tight-knit community and know all the parents and kids well because Fred Meyer is their one-stop place to shop.
Garfield Elementary appreciates all of the community support afforded to the students and families. Thank you, Fred Meyer!
Last Thursday, April 22nd, Garfield Elementary volunteers from the Stone Church, the student body and the Garfield staff kicked off a landscaping project to improve the grounds of the school. It started with sod removal and culminated on Saturday, April 24th with the weed barrier, edging, landscaping rocks, irrigation, flowers, plants and bark. It looks amazing! Special thanks to the 20+ staff and community volunteers, support from the YSD's maintenance personnel, S&A Restoration and Construction, Triple R Rentals and Atkin's Landscaping. Garfield now how even more impressive curb appeal!
Fresh Produce Boxes, Meal Packs, and Activity Kits For Students Before Winter Break
Posted by Ashley LaRiviere on 12/18/2020
Schools across the district were busy throughout the day on December 16 as they distributed meal boxes, fresh produce, and activity kits for students in preparation for winter break.
The fresh produce boxes contained 8-12 different types of produce from local and neighboring state farms. A special thanks to our local farmers; McIlrath Family Farms, Pacific Fresh Produce, and the Washington State Department of Agriculture. We also appreciate the staff support from Crafted Eatery & Single Hill for helping pack the boxes. Thank you for partnering together to provide nutritious local produce for our community!
The Yakima Schools Foundation handed out student activity kits that shared information on how to practice #SafeCelebrations while having fun over winter break. The kits included coloring pages and mask making supplies. Students and/or parents can comment on any YSD #SafeCelebrations social media post with a picture of their coloring page or mask to be entered to win a prize! Winners will be announced on social media on January 4.
